|Is it me or am I taking my boys to get their haircuts more often than mine? Feels like it grows right back overnight! I decided to venture beyond my usual spot because I heard there was a new place that had recently opened, and I am SO glad I did!
Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids opened this past October, a short 3 months ago. They are located on San Pablo Road and are open 7 days/week: Monday through Friday 10am-6pm, Saturdays 9am-6pm, and Sundays 12pm-5pm. Their mission is to not only provide a superior haircut, but in an (incredibly clean) environment that is filled with fun not found in other kids salons!
They offer several haircut options for all members of the family, starting with baby’s first haircut, gaming station for the older boys, a tween lounge for the older girls, as well as adults. They cater to special events such as updos and birthday parties. All haircuts come with a wash, cut, blow-dry, choice of car or video gaming station, and to end the experience, a lollipop and balloon! Although I am a #boymom, check this out…each girl’s haircut ($19.95) comes with a mini-cure, which includes a nail polish change and a glamour ring! SO MUCH FUN!!!
Our experience at Sharkey’s couldn’t have been better. We were greeted by brightly colored walls, a huge TV, and themed cars which had both boys’ eyes wide open. My boys also love sharks, so that was a win! Our stylist was personable (adult and child-friendly), patient, and gentle. Not to mention skilled as I was extremely happy with the cut. In addition to the thoughtful lollipop and balloon, my boys got shark tattoos! (Yep, they each had a tattoo within 30 minutes of being home!) I also had the pleasure of meeting the husband-and-wife co-owners and they were delightful! The husband took the time to let me know about the charitable component to Sharkey’s which was the icing on the cake!!!!
Sharkey’s contributes a portion of the proceeds of each haircut to a charity. Each child is given a special Sharkey poker chip and they get to select the charity of their choice. Currently there are three donation boxes in the salon, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund, and Malachi’s Miracle Foundation,(a foundation that was started by a Sharkey’s customer and is designed to help families impacted by kidney disease in pregnancy or infancy). By having the child select the charity, their hope is to “instill a sense of community and giving in the children.” Cue the chills!! They want to keep the charities local, and they are always looking for new causes to support.
All in all, I’d say our trip was a major success. Not only do my boys look great, but I left with a warm heart knowing I contributed to a wonderful charity! We will be back, Sharkey’s!
