Every once in a while, you deserve a break from kid-friendly restaurants and enjoy an evening among adults. To my surprise, my friends treated me to a lovely birthday dinner at Local Seasonal Kitchen (41 W. Main St., Ramsey, NJ) located right in the heart of Ramsey. Nestled in the midst of a strip mall, is this beautiful oasis of culinary delight. The genius of Local is that the menu is created by what ingredients are available from local farmers and suppliers.
From the moment you step into this place, you feel like you’ve entered a spa. The decor is clean and simple with muted tones that give you that warm fuzzy feeling. For a view of their dining room visit their website. Local is BYOB and conveniently located next to a liquor store. Reservations are a must!
Due to the size of our party (10 people), we were given a pre-set menu costing $65.00/person. We had 5 options for appetizers, 3 choices for the main entree and 3 choices for dessert. (I have to admit my palate is less educated than those I was dining with and I was a bit nervous. I decided to be bold and made selections much outside my comfort zone.)
To start, I had the Parmesan & Ricotta Gnudi which were described to me as “little pockets of love”. Oh, how right they were!
For dinner, I chose Braised Short Ribs complete with whipped parsley potatoes, braised greens and roasted early summer vegetables. It was almost too pretty to eat.
Sadly, I did not capture the beauty of the dessert with a photo but its memory lives on! I had the Bittersweet Chocolate Budino consisting of caramel cream and cocoa shortbread lightly dusted with sea salt. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.
Whether it’s date night or girls’ night, every night is a good night at Local. Find something to celebrate and make a reservation now!
