I’m always sad when Labor Day comes because that means back to school–early mornings and hectic schedules. If you want to stretch out the last lazy days of summer then you can head out to any of these fun events. Whether warding off vampires at the Garlic Festival, chowing down on great food at a festival, or catching a parade we will all celebrate a weekend of “no work” and feel the summer’s last rays of warmth. Sun to Mon. Peach Festival. 9am to 5pm. A day filled with music, dancing contests and u-pick fruit & vegetables. Visit the petting zoo, take a scenic and relaxing wagon ride around the lake or get lost in a hay maze. Fri to Sat. Uke New Jersey: A Ukulele Festival. Fri: 8pm; and all day Saturday. Fri: $20; Sat: $75. Featuring artists James Hill, Victoria Vox, Jim and Liz Beloff and Celtic Spirit. There will also be a screening of the documentary Mighty Uke, as well as Workshops, Jams, Open Mics, Vendors and lots and lots of good music and friendship. Sat and Sun. Grossology. 9am to 5:30pm. Learn about your body with a climbing wall, a walk-in nose, pinball games and giant burp machine. There is also an exhibit called Block Party at the museum! Liberty Science Center, Jersey City. Link here.
