I LOVE weekends in the fall–the beautiful foliage and the family friendly activities like apple picking! Be sure to go in September–by October the apples tend to be sparse. Sept. 17th to October 30th: Bear Mountain Oktoberfest. 12pm to 6pm. German food, live entertainment, arts and crafts. Take a boat ride on Hessian Lake, stroll in the park or take a ride on the Merry Go Round. $8/car parking fee. Link here.

MusicFest & Union County Fair. Wed/Thur: 5pm to 10pm; Fri: 4 to 10pm; Sat.: 11am to 10pm; Sun: 12pm to 8pm. Live music festival featuring Blondie and Collective Soul among others. Family Storytelling Workshop and Storytelling Festival. 12pm to 6pm. 30 top NJ storytellers in a beautiful setting! Participate in Story Slam (see site).
