This was a daunting task…picking the best events on Halloween weekend! Every town is sure to have some kind of parade and celebration so be sure to check your town's website for details. Here is just a smattering of fun events all around North Jersey.  My favorites are the Gardens Aglow event on Friday, the Bergen County Festival on Saturday and the All Hallow's Eve event on Sunday. FRIDAY TO SUNDAY

SugarLoaf Craft Festival. Fri/Sat: 10am to 6pm; Sun: 10am to 5pm. 275 craftspeople from around the nation will be featured. Gourmet foods, live demonstrations of pottery, stone carving, etc. Garden State Exhibit Center, Somerset. $7 online; $9 at door, children under 12 free. Link here

12th Annual Spooktacular. 10am to 7pm. Wear your costume and trick or treat throughout the museum. New Jersey Children's Museum, Paramus. Link here 

FRIDAY

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Story. 6pm (4 shows on the hour). Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk gives a reading of the classic story–sure to cause thrills and chills! Tickes $16, $12 for children under 18. Old Dutch Church, Sleepy Hollow. Link here

Gardens Aglow. 6pm to 9pm. Bring your carved pumpkin and see it lit by a candle around the flower beds. Local artists' jack-o-lanterns also on display. Kids activities, live music and refreshments. A great alternative to Blaze in NY! Presby Memorial Iris Gardens, Upper Montclair. Free! Link here

Halloween Magic Show. 3:30pm. Non scary show with Steve Woyce, featuring Henry the Magic Rabbit. Free, but preregister. Waldwick Library. 

IHOP Free Pancakes. 7am to 10pm. Trick or treaters receive a free pancake that they can decorate with strawberries, Oreo cookies, candy corn and whipped cream. Ages 12 and under. Link here.

Pumpkin Carving at Montclair Art Museum. 6pm to 8pm. Come in costume! Pumpkins, art supplies and tools provided. Adults must accompany kids. $20 member family, $25 non member family. Link here.  

Fall Stargazing. 8pm to 11pm. Join the planetarium staff at Riker Hill Park in Livingston. Telescopes will be set up for people to see the autumn sky. 284 Beaufort Avenue, Livingston. Link here

Halloween Spooktacular. 6pm to 10pm. (Saturday too) Monsters and ghouls will greet guests on the Terror Tour. Younger guests should go to the Wildlife Challenge: face painting and tabletop activities. Costume contest, trick or treating and Halloween films. Liberty Science Center, Jersey City. Link here

SATURDAY

8th Annual Fall Harvest Festival. 10am to 1pm. Trick or treating, food, entertainment, and shopping! Tices Corner, 441 Chestnut Ridge Road, Woodcliff Lake. Link here

Leonia Halloween Parade. 10am. Parade starts at Anna C. Scott school parking lot and ends up at the Leonia Recreation Center where a Treat Street is set up. 

Mischief Night Masquerade Ball. 5pm to 7pm. Ballroom dancing and refreshments, including free 1/2 hour dance lesson. $15/person and $25/couple. Adults only! Ridgewood YMCA. Link here.  

Fall Family Festival. 1pm to 6pm. Kids ages 2 to 12 are invited to come in costume and enjoy trick or treating, family-friendly activites, crafts, face painting and more. Paramus Park Mall. Link here

Pumpkin Festival. 12pm to 5pm. A pumpkin patch for kids to pick a free pumpkin, decorating, vendors, entertainment, marionette performances, hay rides, Megamind Trivia showcase, and haunted house. Central Park bandshell, 72nd Street. Link here

Halloween Family Festival. 11am to 4pm. Parade around the museum in costume. Pumpkin painting, create costume jewelry, design a mask, watch Monsters, Inc. Morris Museum, Morristown. Link here

Latino Heritage Festival. 12:30pm to 4pm. A Papel Picado (paper cutting) workshop, hot chocolate and bread, and mariachi band. Newark Museum. Link here

8th Annual Bergen County Fall Festival. Pony rides, hay rides, face painting and historic reenactors. Admission, refreshments, etc. are all free! (11am to 2pm) Saddle River County Park. (1pm to 4pm) James A. McFaul Environmental Center on Crescent Avenue, Wyckoff. Link here 

Tenafly Recreation Halloween Parade and Celebration. 4pm. Parade begins at the corner of Tenafly Road and Riveredge Road and ends at the Middle School. Prizes awarded for costumes. Games, treats and haunted house. 

SUNDAY

15th Annual Halloween Party. 2pm to 5pm. Trick or treat among the great exhibits at this museum. Arts and crafts and live music. American Museum of Natural History. Link here

Howl-o-ween at Turtle Back Zoo. Ride the spooky train and enjoy talents of magician Joel Fisher. $5/person; under 2 free. Link here

Hoboken Ragamuffin Parade. 1pm. Line of march begins at 12:15pm on Washington St. between 13th and 14th Street. Floats, costume contest (2:15pm at the Little League Field), local music, etc. Link here

All Hallow's Eve Family Fun Day. 2pm to 5pm. Come in costume to the field next to the church and be sure to get your "passport." Get it stamped at stations like crafts: scarecrow, bracelet, balloon twist or games: horseshoe toss, limbo, golf, potato sack race, fishing cookies race and more.
