So, the call came in this week from my daughter’s ‘significant other’. It was her birthday and he wanted to take her out to dinner; would we babysit?

Of course! Any excuse to spend time with the grandchildren, but what to do with them? “Well Mom, they need sneakers. Would you mind taking them for shoes?”

We get a kick out of this because we took them to ‘Gibling’s Shoes’ on McArthur Blvd. in Mahwah. Gibling’s is where we took our children for shoes when they were young. At that time, they were located in the Interstate Shopping Center in Ramsey. We also enjoy buying them shoes because we let them pick out whatever they want (within reason) which includes lights on the soles of the sneakers for my grandson & glitter for my grandaughter. Gibling’s  has the same silent movie projector they had 30 some odd years ago in the Ramsey store. For one cent the children can view silent movies – this came in handy while one was being fitted the other was viewing the movie.

After that, we headed over to the Allendale Farmers’ Market to check out the new addition of Music to the Market. The kids enjoyed this because Tom Nikolaidis of ‘Magic Cube Entertainment’ was handing out free lolipops. Magic Cube provides entertainment for events & individuals, a children’s game show is his specialty. If you miss him at the Market you can catch him at “Allendale Festival Day & Car Show” on October 5th. There he will have a stage and put on his game show for the kids all day. “Tonato Potato” was selling his famous deep fried potaotes on a stick so they had to have that also.

Then we headed over to ‘Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery’. They really enjoyed this – there were pumpkins, hayrides, scarecrows, halloween decorations, cider, donuts, mums – you name it. Plus this weekend 9/21 & 22 they will be hosting a  ‘Founder’s Day Celebation’ in honor of their 100th anniversary. Then we headed home where MiMi & PaPa Joe collapsed! Grandparenting is exhausting business!

Lauren sets up a hayride play date every year at Roshler’s – Check out her Rohsler’s Hayride Review.
