Ranchero Cantina- Texas Family Dining

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post.

Recently, my family and I went to dinner at Ranchero Cantina, a Texas Family Dining restaurant located in Emerson, NJ. The menu is packed with a wide variety of Texan and Mexican fare such as chili con carne, “big beef” BBQ, chicken mole, tacos, tamales, fajitas and much more. The menu also offers a wide array of gluten free options.

We started off the meal with queso dip ($6.50), a cheesy dip served warm with tortillas and fresh fried chips, and guacamole ($9). Both dips were flavorful but not too spicy so the kids were able to enjoy them as well.

For his entrée, my husband ordered the sizzling, fire-grilled shrimp fajitas ($16), served with sautéed onions, peppers, pico de gallo, guacamole, cheese, Mexican rice and refried beans. I ordered the camarones and chorizo ($20), a delicious dish of jumbo gulf shrimp, chorizo, peppers and scallions, sautéed in a lobster-cilantro butter sauce and served with warm tortillas and rice.

To end the meal, we all quickly agreed on the dessert chimichanga, a deep-fried banana served with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.

The bar boasts a large drink selection, flat screen TV’s and offers drink and food specials during football games. Happy Hour is weekdays, 4pm-7pm and Saturday 11:30am-7pm. Plan a night out with friends on Ladies Night, which is every Thursday from 7pm-2am. Be sure to check out their website for information on weekly live music shows.

A festive, kid-friendly atmosphere makes Ranchero Cantina a great option for a fun night out with the entire family.

  1. Wow, I’m really surprised to read this because I had a terrible dining experience there… we went on a Sunday afternoon and the service was slow and the food not very good. I ordered pulled pork, which from a tex-mex place seemed like a good idea? There wasn’t enough flavor/sauce/anything and barely any cole slaw. My husband’s meal was also pretty lackluster. The only thing good was my daughter’s macaroni and cheese, which we all three ate, haha. I wonder if they have made improvements or if you just got a good meal because you reviewed them?

    • Hi Sarah- I’m sorry to hear that- I had a totally different dining experience. We all found our food very flavorful and the service very responsive.
