Bourbon Meatballs

Bourbon Meatballs is a go-to recipe of mine.  I often serve it as an appetizer at parties but it also makes a great meal.  Not only is it delicious, it really could not be any easier!  One of the ingredients in this recipe is frozen meatballs.  I am someone who likes making my own meatballs, but for this recipe you really can’t tell the difference.  The flavor of the Tastefully Simple Bayou Bourbon Glaze is just so yummy!

You can prep this meal ahead of time and put in your freezer or it can be made the same day.   If you are making it as a freezer meal, place the frozen meatballs into a one gallon freezer bag, add the bourbon sauce and the water.  Mix it together, label and put in the freezer.   If you are making the meal the same day, you can place the meatballs directly into the crockpot or the stovetop pan and then stir in the bourbon sauce and the water.

This recipe can also be cooked two different ways.  You can make it in the slow cooker or you can make it on the stove top.  The slow cooker method allows you to turn it on in the morning and then do other things throughout the day.  If you make it on the stovetop it cooks faster but you need to watch it.  The stove top version also allows the meatballs to have more of a glaze.  I love the stovetop version for appetizers and the slow cooker version is good for making it into a meal.

Slow Cooker Instructions: cook on low for 6-8 hours.  If it seems dry at all you can add more water.  If you want a more creamy sauce you can add cream cheese for the last half hour of cooking.  This will give you a creamy sauce and you can serve over rice or noodles.

Stovetop Cooking Instructions: Use a deep sauté or frying pan.  Add the meatballs, bourbon sauce and water.  Cook on low for about 20 minutes or until the meatballs are heated up.  Then turn up the heat to medium high.  Cook until the liquid turns into a caramelized glaze on the meatballs.  The meatballs can now be served over rice, or alone with toothpicks.  A great appetizer!!
